In 1964 the French Committee for Art History (CFHA) was founded. But above all, this date marks a renewal of art history in France, both at university and in the field of heritage. Sixty years later, when the International Congress of Art History will be held in Lyon in June 2024, an international event which will welcome around two thousand researchers from around the world, the CFHA publishes Histories of Art in France. 1964-2024. Places, Questions, Challenges. The work retraces the important stages which marked the history of art in France during this period and emphasizes the diversity of the discipline, as it has been practiced for several generations in different places.
A true intellectual history of the history of art in France, the book, a collective work which brings together the best specialists on the subject, addresses around fifty "events' which have marked the discourse on the history of art in France. and emphasizes some cross-cutting themes. It offers a historiographical reflection and a questioning of the contemporary issues of the discipline. Through its epistemological openness, it will also contribute to a deeper understanding of the methods and practices of art history.

Work published by the French Committee for the History of Art, under the direction of Olivier Bonfait, president of the CFHA.
