American Civil War, 1861 To 1865, Volume Ii – The Union

The American Civil War, fought between April 12, 1861, and May 26, 1865, in the United States between the Union ("the North") and the Confederacy ("the South"), which was formed in 1861 by states that had seceded from the Confederacy. The Anaconda Plan was a strategy devised by the Union to suppress the Confederacy at the beginning of the American Civil War. Proposed by Union General-in-Chief Winfield Scott, the plan emphasized that, first, all ports in the seceding states should be strictly blockaded. Second, a strong column of about 80,000 men should use the Mississippi River as a highway to advance through the Confederacy. In developing the war simulation, I will use the board game "For the People" by GMT Games. I will test ideas presented in the book "A Critical History of the Late American War", by Asa Mahan, published in 1877.
