States are increasingly expanding pharmacists’ scope of practice to include authorization for point-of-care testing and test-and-treat in pharmacy practice. This book provides an overview of test and treat and point-of-care testing services, including how to set up a pharmacy-based CLIA-waived laboratory and patient assessment skills needed to conduct test and treat services. It includes an overview of diagnosis, physical assessment, and treatment of the most common conditions eligible for a pharmacist’s care, including influenza, COVID, streptococcal infection, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and others. It also reviews protocol requirements to establish a point-of-care testing practice, as well as principles of collaboration, documentation, communication, and financial sustainability.
