A Search for Meaning in Victorian Religion

The purpose of this project is to contextualize the teachings of Charles Carleton Massey’s writings into history and modernity through a two-fold approach: to provide a biography of this fascinating mystic and to explore the details of his life and associations including his role in the Theosophical Society, Psychological Society, British National Association of Spiritualists, the Society of Psychical Research, and his later connection with other Christian mystics, Mary Atwood, and Isabelle de Steiger.
