23 contributions are devoted to the Ancient Near Eastern archaeologist Peter Pfalzner. As an outstanding scientist, he influenced and shaped this subject in many ways. The contributions cover a wide range of different topics, regions and eras, reflecting his wide-ranging research interests. The thematic focus is accordingly on "theories and methods" (Part I), "resource use and settlement development" (Part II), "concepts of architecture" (Part III), archaeological-stylistic questions (Part IV) and studies on how to deal with the dead (Part V).
