In a wealthy Moscow household, where aristocrats, servants, visitors, and peasants all collide under one roof, this sharp comedy turns social performance into farce. At the center is Leoníd Zvezdíntsef, a retired officer and ardent amateur spiritualist, surrounded by his vain wife, restless children, and a household alive with flirtation, gossip, and complaint.
