A swarm of petty frauds, public follies, and legal absurdities drives these sharply satirical pieces, each exposing how easily vanity, sympathy, and habit can be turned against common sense. A comic chain reaction in a shop then shows how a fly, a lizard, a cat, and a dog can spark a brawl that swells into mob violence, faction, and civic chaos. The final scenes move into the County Court, where brisk justice, legal statistics, and debate over juries reveal both the promise and the limits of cheaper, more practical access to the law.
