Though less well known in America, Jock of the Bushveld is a cornerstone of South African children's literature. Focusing on the travels of the other through Transvaal with his trusty dog Jock. The book involves sections on race relations and cruelty to animals which today seem shocking. It, therefore, stands as a document of its time for better or worse. However, the tale remains riveting and the writing just as powerful as when it was published in 1907.
