Prairie-dog Town

On the Dakota prairie near Edgeley, bright, adventurous Twinkle and her quiet friend Chubbins slip away from a school picnic and discover a hidden hollow of burrow mounds unlike anything they have ever seen. There they find Prairie-Dog Town, a secret underground community where timid prairie-dogs emerge to reveal a lively society complete with families, manners, and civic leadership. The friendly Mayor, Mr. Bowko, welcomes the children and introduces them to the town's colorful residents, including Mrs. Puff-Pudgy and her children, Teenty and Weenty. As Twinkle and Chubbins watch in wonder, the prairie-dogs' miniature world comes to life with humor and charm. Then the magician Presto Digi promises to shrink the children so they can visit the underground homes themselves, and with a comic flourish makes them prairie-dog size. Guided into the town, the children begin an enchanting adventure filled with curiosity, hospitality, and playful fantasy.
