Russian Fairy Tales

Alexander Afanasye was essentially the Russian equivalent of the Brothers Grimm. He wandered throughout Russia in the mid-Nineteenth Century, gathering traditional fairy tales. The result is one of the most robust and impressive collections of folklore ever assembled. The stories are woefully underrated and reflect the strange semi-pagan religious and cultural life of rural Russia.
