Stories of The Shetland Witch

K
Kate Macdonald

In The Shetland Witch we met the Shetland witches, an immigrant Fate and Tornost the malignant trow with a thirst for gold and blood. In Stories from The Shetland Witch the worldbuilding from The Shetland Witch is unpacked in two novellas about some of these characters. The Fates are probably the only female characters from classical Greek myth who have not yet had a novel written about them: In Achaea is their first contemporary outing. How do the Fates react to Zeus’s Olympian takeover? How will Themis triumph as the shears that cut the threads of life are sent out of time and space where Zeus cannot find and use them? But Zeus has other ways to bend his daughters to his will. In Mrs Sinclair and the Feather Haa it is 1807. Mrs Sinclair is a new-made Shetland widow, turning her mind with thankfulness to bringing up her daughters away from the domestic tyrannies of her dead husband. Then trow Tornost comes to visit and reminds Mrs Sinclair that she once was a witch, and that the intimidating Lady Brae now desires to see her. Mrs Sinclair is sent on a mission for her own safety to rescue some valuable treasures, but on her return she finds that burning witches has not yet died out in Shetland.
