''The Mysterious Mickey Finn'' is a satirical comic mystery novel which serves as the very first installment in the popular Homer Evans mystery series, which parodies the famous, overly serious Philo Vance detective stories of S. S. Van Dine. The story is set against the bohemian backdrop of the Montparnasse district in Paris. Hugo Weiss, a multimillionaire, philanthropist, and munificent patron of the arts, suddenly vanishes during a visit to the city. Enter Homer Evans, an eccentric, normally laconic, and independently wealthy American amateur detective living in France. Alongside his sharpshooting girlfriend—a literal cowgirl from the American West—Evans uses his keen intellect and bizarre intuition to find the missing financier.
