Zane Grey's story of Lewis Wetzel, a real historical character, and his quest to fight Native American tribes and defend frontier settlement on the Ohio River. Wetzel's actions look quite different in the 21st Century than they did to readers over a century ago. However, it remains a fascinating testament to views of the frontier at the time. Indeed, Zane Grey's work greatly inspired the Western movies that would dominate Hollywood in the mid-20th Century.
