Words I Love, Volume 10

An Earthly/Heavenly Romance

C
Charles Santiago

The poems in celebration of an earthly/heavenly romance—between an earthly beau and his heavenly belle—here come to an end. These love poems sprang from “wedding number two,” when the bride died and rose to a higher life—but not unaccompanied by her groom. Both believed that God can provide a link between heaven and earth despite the crafty scheming of Mr. Dead and Gone. The poems expose Mr. Dead and Gone as a wily foe of true love. If he can’t convince the grieving widower that his beloved wife is forever dead, then he tries to convince the widower that he must wait for death to come before he and his wife can continue the life begun at wedding number one. Mr. Dead and Gone proves to be unpersuasive. In poem 151, “Lovers, Joined as ONE,” Mr. Dead and Gone’s arguments are presented in stanzas 1–4. In the end, both wife and husband refute his crafty assertions.

Through 1,725 poems—from August 29, 2023, to March 4, 2026—earthly man and heavenly wife exchanged verses celebrating their continued union since the awesome day of wedding number two. Hand in hand, they carry on, awaiting the day of wedding number three.
