Olympiodorus: On Aristotle Meteorology 2-3

Unabridged version

Auteur inconnu

Olympiodorus the Younger was perhaps the last non-Christian philosopher to teach publicly in Alexandria. In this commentary, he studies Aristotle's views on topics ranging from the nature of the sea to the causes of winds, halo, and rainbow. As a Platonist, Olympiodorus occasionally promotes interesting interpretations, for instance attributing to Aristotle the thesis that the sea is the entirety of water, even though Aristotle had stated the opposite.

With detailed notes and supporting contextual introduction, plus Greek and English indices, this translation will be of interest to students of ancient Greek sciences in general and Aristotle's Meteorology in particular.
